Elizabethan Collar Alternative (E Collar) - The Comfy Cone

Elizabethan collars (E Collars) have traditionally been a hard plastic cone that caused your poor dog to bang into things and never truly be able to lie or eat comfortable. That all changes with the Comfy Cone!

What is a Comfy Cone?

The Comfy Cone e collar is the modern day version of the elizabethan collar! The Comfy Cone e collar is made of patented nylon fabric laminated onto 1/2" foam which is soft and yielding while being very sturdy and protective. Simply thread your dog's collar through the elastic loops to keep the Comfy Cone securely in place.

The Comfy Cone has been specifically designed to allow your dog to eat and drink in comfort. Conforms to any shape making sleeping in the Comfy Cone much more comfortable for your dog. Your dog can also pass through small walkways without getting the e collar hung up. The Comfy Cone e collar can also be partially or fully bent back during times when your pet is under supervision.

The Comfy Cone is comfortable, washable and flexible. Just as effective as a plastic cone, but made of fabric covered foam panels. Folds back, if needed, so you can adjust the length, increase dog's visibility or assist with mealtimes. Try that with a hard plastic cone!

The Comfy Cone attaches with Velcro, which is fastened all along the seam. This allows you to not only get a very comfortable, custom fit, but it also allows you to adjust how wide you want the open end to be.

Buying the Correct size:

Buying the correct size e-collar is extremely important in order to give your dog the best protection to heal.

First, measure the circumference of your dogs neck at the base. This is easiest accomplished by using a piece of string and placing it around the base of your dogs neck so the ends meet. Then take a ruler and measure between the two ends where they met and you will have the neck measurement in the first column above.

Then, using the string, hold the string at the base of the neck and hold it out past your dogs nose. Then measure between those ends as well. This will give you the measurement for the second column, nose to snout.

The most important measurement in selecting the correct size is the neck to snout.

The collar needs to come past the nose, or your dog can reach parts of their body.

Another reason for the collar to go past the nose is that then the collar acts like a blinder, so they can't even see the area that may be bandaged or otherwise off limits.

The clear plastic elizabethan collars can frustrate your dog even more, because they think they see something and become anxious when they can't get to it.

What if my dogs measurements don't match exactly the measurements in the table?

If you find that the neck measurement points you to one size but the neck-to-snout measurement points you to another size, rely most on the neck-to-snout measurement. The Comfy Cone is adjustable around the neck. You can thread your dog's collar or a piece of gauze through the elastic loops to help keep it on.

With the Comfy Cone e collar, your dog feels like he/she are in their own little space, helping them to relax and rest so they can heal faster.

Using your Comfy Cone elizabethan collar for the first time:

It is extremely important to supervise your pet when first using the Comfy Cone e collar or any elizabethan collar for the first time.

You need to see how your pet reacts to an e collar and more importantly that you have selected the correct size. Picking the right size is crucial for the Comfy Cone e collar to work. The Comfy Cone MUST go past your pets nose, or they will be able to reach areas that need protection.

Never leave the Comfy Cone e collar folded back while your dog is unsupervised.
