Below
is a collection of testimonial "snippets" taken from letters to Animal
Food Services (AFS) on the amazing results dog owners have experienced by feeding
their dogs products from AFS.
AFS
production of fresh-frozen raw meat diets began in 1991, founded by Gerry Nash.
Nash began formulating fresh meat diets back in the early 1970's, and introduced
his perfected diets in 1975, selling to zoos, circuses and greyhound racing
dogs.
Extensive
experiments, testing, detailed analyses and favorable trials laid the groundwork
for the great success AFS is experiencing today! The main goal of this company
has always been to create and distribute the most natural and nutritionally
sound meat diets possible--for our true "carnivorous" animals.
Realizing
how beneficial their products were to the commercial industry, AFS has broadened
its marketing approach toward the general public. The tremendous responses gained
from domestic pet owners, breeders, veterinarians, etc. has supported this company's
view that pet owners are now realizing the benfits of taking diets "Back
to the Basics" and realizing a tremendous improvement in their pets overall
health and well being!

I am writing this testimonial to let you know how amazed I am with the AFS Meat
Eater diet. Fancy is a Great Dane who has suffered sever skin problems for most
of her life. The veterinarians were unable to diagnose what she had.
We had tried
ultraviolet therapy, dips and baths, food additives for dry skin, food for allergies
and medicine. The vet bills for skin scrapes, office calls, allergy testing
and cephalexin have well exceed the $400 mark just for the months of April through
October. The medicine that was prescribed for her worked well but as soon as
she finish it, here welts and itching would start all over. If itching and welts
weren't enough, wherever she had a welt, the hair would fall out leaving bald
spots all over her body. This dog had been trained for the obedience ring, but
with the way her skin and coat looked, it was just too embarrassing to take
her out in public.
And then a
friend told me about your AFS Meat Diet and it could possibly help. I figures
why not? We've tried everything else! She not only loved the meat, her skin
looks WONDERFUL !! She is now entered for her 1st obedience trial next month.
She doesn't itch or flake any more and feels terrific.
Thank you so
much for showing that your meat diet makes a difference and does affect the
skin. Our veterinarian still doesn't agree with feeding raw meat, but we have
seen the results!
Thank you,
Jackie H.

This is Daisy, a Bichon Frise who is seven years old. In the past three or four
years she's developed allergies and been quite miserable. Her coat was sparse
and dry and discolored. Her teeth were rotting out despite regular dental procedures
as suggested by my vet. She would whine a lot and acted like her nerves were
on end.
After four
to five months on the AFS meat diet she is a totally different dog. Her coat
is apalescent and thick now with no skin irritations. She plays like a young
dog and generally enjoys life.
Thank you AFS!
We appreciate your efforts!

...As the weeks slid by Shades continued to decline, preferring to
sleep most of the day. When she was awake she was sluggish and mopey. I had
already been to the Vet several times and had given up on their high paid advice
regarding Shade's "fussy appetite." She had become so thin I dubbed
her "dane dental floss."
With five bags
of food sitting in my garage untouched, I was at my wits end. No amount of coaxing,
or cajoling would work. Shades hadn't eaten in four days, and I decided that
after the Toledo show I would just pull her until I could figure out what to
do.
We arrived
at the show early and walked to the different booths examining their products.
There was a booth display and as we approached the table, a woman offered my
girl a bite of what looked to be a raw hamburger patty. Shades practically took
her fingers off with the first bite. I was stunned!! This was too good to be
true.
After the show
we went back to the table where we were introduced Animal Food Services--a raw
meat product specially designed to meet the needs of all carnivorous animals.
I took it home that night and began to feed it to her.
Immediately,
I noticed her energy level increase. She lost the mopey look too. Her tail was
up and wagging!
The next morning,
Shades trotted down the stairs to the kitchen instead of staying in her bed.
I followed behind to see what she was up to. She actually ran to her food bowl
a starving beggar!
Shades of Grey
is my success story! Her eyes are bright, her tail is wagging, and she is confident
and alert. Muscle has replaced the sink hole between her shoulder blades. She
feels good, and she looks good. In January, she took her class after a former
three in a row loosing streak....
Sincerely,
Cynthia L.

I just wanted to Thank You for making such a great product. We've been using
the Meat Eater Diet for 6 months now and the results are great.
My wife and
I do St. Bernard rescue work, currently we have seven that we consider our own.
We recently
had our 10 year old St. Bernard "Sebastian" to the Vet to have a fatty
tumor removed. He has had chronic ear infections since we've had him (8 years).
In the past we've treated his ears with Panalog, Otamax, Cephalexin. Nothing
was effective. He was always in great pain, constantly shaking his head. You
couldn't touch anywhere near his ears without a Yelp.
When we took
him in for the appointment after being on the diet for 6 months. The Vet could
not believe the condition of his ears. There was no sign of infection. She questioned
what we were doing to differently. My Answer was Raw Meat. She was very apprehensive
to the idea of feeding Raw Meat Diet, but how could she argue with these results.
Since then
we've stopped all medications for him and no infection has reappeared. Now the
same Vet calls us frequently and inquires about the diet and has even recommended
it to other clients.
Once again
thank you for making such a great product. We now wish we would have been using
it for much longer, but we figure its never too late to start. I know the Dogs
thank us. They finally seem as if they're nutritionally satisfied. No more unexplained
Hot Spots or chewing at their feet, Just playing tug and swimming are their
favorite things.
Sincerely,
---Jim

Godzilla (a Belgian Shep. Groenendael) was found on a street in New Orleans
when he was 6 weeks old. He had mange, was dehydrated and malnourished. His
face was hairless and he had bald spots. Fortunately he was brought to the Veterinary
Clinic that I worked in and the doctors were believers in Meateaters diet.
Within a few
weeks he was healthy and beautiful. We moved to an area where Meateaters wasn't
readily available and I made the mistake of feeding him commercial dog foods.
He became almost hairless and nothing that the new vets did helped. I ordered
Meateaters, started him back on a healthy diet, and the change was a true miracle.
He and his new buddy Benjamin (Golden Retriever with allergies) are meateaters
and happy and beautiful for it.
No more playing
around with their nutrition!

I'm a BARF feeder, and find it very difficult to travel with BARF. I'm a wheelchair
user, my dogs are service dogs, and it's often impossible to find economical
hotels/motels with in-room refrigerators for frozen BARF.
Now, with the
AFS patties, I can continue to feed my dogs a biologically appropriate raw diet,
while keeping my sanity! YESSS!
Plus, the dried
patties are fantastic training treats, and break up so easily. They are so perfect
for those of us who need a dry product, but do not want to feed cat food or
regular commercial training treats. I've always like freeze-dried liver, but
it is very difficult to cut up for those of us who are mobility limited, and
have reduced hand strength. The AFS patties break up with fingertip pressure,
and are so easy to use!
I am so excited
about this product and my dogs all tell me it's the greatest. Whether I feed
it re-hydrated or dry, as training treats--the dogs love it and find it a most
rewarding reinforcement.
Thank you for
a WONDERFUL PRODUCT which will make my life so much easier. I travel quite a
bit with my service dog work and this year, with my Papillon "Peek"
having won the National Service Dog of the Year Award, we expect to do even
more traveling. The first item packed will be the AFS patties!
Thank you again,

Thank you for once again making your Pet Patty/Meat Eater diet available to
veterinarians and discriminating pet owners who want to feed the best. After
over 20 years as a wildlife veterinarian and wildlife biologist, I am amazed
at the common misconception that just because dogs and cats are domesticated
carnivores (meat eaters) we have also "domesticated" their basic nutritional
needs as well as their nutritional requirements for peak performance and health.
Although selective breeding can alter body size,
coat color and behavior of an animal, domestication and selective breeding has
not altered the basic physiologic processes and nutritional requirements inherited
from the wild genetic foundation of today's domestic dog and cat.
The major producers of commercial dog and cat foods
produce a combination of predominantly cereal and low grade meat by-products
that will grow and maintain a dog or cat if fed enough. With proper vitamin
and mineral supplementation these diets are adequate for the dogs and cats owned
by 85% of the general public. The fact that they will grow and survive on these
commercial foods is only a tribute to their ability to digest a wide variety
of materials.
For the remaining 15% of pet owners that expect
peak performance and body condition in our pets and working animals and want
to feed them absolutely the finest diet possible as foundation for a preventive
health program, good is just not good enough. Domestic dogs and cats are carnivores
and must be fed a carnivores diet. When a coyote, wolf or mountain lion hunts,
their first choice preferred diet are small mammals consumed whole.
If no juicy mammals are available they will of
course eat the next best available protein source which are insects and bugs.
Plant stems, roots and fibers are eaten only as a last resort. For those who
want to "feed the wild" in our dogs and cats we must have a diet that
comes as close to that diet of choice of free ranging carnivores; that is the
Pet Patty/Meat Eater diet.
Your Pet Patty/Meat Eater diet allows me to feed
my performance dogs and my "house tiger" the best. Thank you for once
again making these fine products available to the veterinary profession that
ensure peak performance and health and allow me to "feed the wild"
in my pets.
Sincerely,

I am writing to tell you how wonderful I think your dog food is. I have a six
year old German Shepherd "Max" who, although otherwise healthy has
suffered allergies since about age
two, and finally developed colitis about a year ago.
We tried everything! Every possible medication was tried, and
every premium manufactured diet was tried. I began reading about feeding a raw
natural diet about 9 months ago, but frankly was afraid to try it, as I wasn't
confident that I could properly provide all the nutrients in the proper balance
that he required. Then after reading Ross Becker's report in "Good Dog"
I phoned AFS and ordered the Canine Patties.
Since Max has always been a picky eater, I was leery and only
gradually added the meat to his kibble. No one was more surprised than I when
he began to eat it right away. This dog who nearly had to be begged (or starved)
to eat was whining at my side while I prepared his food! But most importantly,
his colitis cleared up within three days.
I don't think I would believe this story if it hadn't happened
to us. Also, his coat improved and be became much more animated. Obviously he
feels better.
Thank you for a product that may have saved Max's life--certainly
it has saved his health.

** January 2001 update
Max is now nearly 8 years old and continues to thrive. People
are amazed at his vigor (and personality and attitude) and his vet says he is
in extraordinary health. Again, thank you. Any future additions to our dog family
(I've had 8 Shepherds over nearly 30 years) will be weaned on your diet!
